Our Story

How WriteNow became home for human stories and ideas

Where It All Began

Our first workspace

In 2020, a group of writers and technologists came together with a shared frustration. The internet had become a place of shallow engagement, where algorithms prioritized viral content over meaningful stories. We believed there had to be a better way.

WriteNow was born in a small apartment in San Francisco, where our founding team spent nights and weekends building the first version of what would become a new kind of storytelling platform. We wanted to create a space where depth mattered more than dopamine hits, where writers could focus on their craft rather than gaming algorithms.

The name "WriteNow" comes from the Latin word "cor" meaning heart and "anu" meaning circle - representing our belief in stories that come from the heart and connect people in meaningful ways.

Our Journey

March 2020

The Spark

First sketches of WriteNow were drawn on napkins during late-night conversations at a local café. The vision was clear: a platform that values quality over quantity.

September 2020

First Prototype

Launched an invite-only alpha version with 12 writers. The minimalist editor and focus on reading experience received overwhelming positive feedback.

April 2021

Public Beta

Opened doors to the public with our unique "slow reading" approach. Reached 10,000 members within the first three months.

January 2022

Writer-First Model

Introduced our membership program that directly supports writers. 80% of subscription revenue goes to creators based on reading time.

Present

Growing Community

Quality Over Quantity

We celebrate depth and nuance. Our tools help writers create their best work, not just their most frequent.

Sustainable Creativity

We've built a model where writers can earn a living doing what they love, supported directly by their readers.
